East Midlands Region Kickstart Workshop 

On 

Wednesday 14 January 2015

In the morning we will have a introduction 

from the curator and a selection of 

Ladybird Books for us to look at 

For this you will need a Sketch/Notebook - 

pencil, fine ink pen, dry colouring material 

only (no water will be allowed), colouring 

crayons, camera, tracing paper. 

A few coloured papers appropriate to your 

images/initial ideas may be useful for later. 

The afternoon session (1-4pm). 

Will be ‘A Voyage of Discovery’ with Pam Keeling. 

You will be encouraged and directed towards 

developing ideas and images you found 

inspirational during the morning or 

beforehand. A series of question and answer 

sessions will take place via Group, pairings 

and one to one. There will be opportunity to 

progress ideas through sketches and 

drawings.

Further to our message yesterday it has been decided that we will cancel the meeting for December and meet again in January. The committee is meeting on Monday to resolve this issue and we will keep you all up to date with any news. We are working hard to find a suitable venue but Stitchcraft is a difficult act to follow for all that it offered us.
The committee would like to thank you for your patience and support and we are looking forward to seeing you at our meeting in the New Year.
In the meantime, we hope you find some creative time over the next few months.

Today we have had news that Stitchcraft studio has closed and we will have to cancel the meeting on Tuesday 2^nd December. The committee is extremely disappointed and saddened by this news but will work as quickly as possible to find an alternative venue in order to continue to build our branch of the Embroiderers’ guild. We will notify you all of further developments. If we don’t see you before, may I take this opportunity to wish you all a very happy Christmas and thank you all, on behalf of the committee, for you support in getting the branch started.

We used Moulding Felt available from Hindleys.com and Homecraft.co.uk (thinner).

Moulding felt can be used dry or wet. We used it dry because it can be reshaped again.

Moulding felt can be  coloured with dyna flow dyes put on with a sponge/

We started by bond webbing a piece of material to white moulding felt

The  previously dyed colour sheets were cut to make shapes based on our inspirational picture.

The pieces were secured with sewing, wire and cotton covered wire (90) which could also be dyed.

Change of Programme 

Tuesday,Dec 2nd., 2014

Instead of the Christmas mouse  Sarah Edwards will lead a group on making a Japanese decoration.I find this very exciting and hope others do as well.

Please remember that if an activity does not interest you members can bring their own projects and continue to enjoy the company of others who share a love of embroidery.

I have posted a picture of Japanese folding decorations below.It not necessarily what we be doing but it may help to inspire you and give people some ideas of what to expect,Materials will be provided.

Additionally if you need to contact a committee member  click on the contact link on the right side of the page and their email addresses will appear. At  the moment it is a copy and paste job but I hope to rectify it soon.

On the right hand side of the page is a box marked alerts.If you type your email address into the box, new posts will be emailed   directly  to your email account as they are posted.This way will received information about workshops etc as soon pages are posted.

The right had column also lists all the older posts  which have been posted under Monthly headings i.e. April if you need to find them

Christmas  Meeting

 Tuesday ,December 2nd ,2014

There will be two mini workshops led by Wendy Coyne and Tina Slipper.

Tina will be leading the group to make  a Christmas tree decoration, She will bring materials and all you will need to bring is embellishments and your usual  sewing kit.

Sarahs  group will make a Japanese folded decoration

Additionally  Sue Rowland, whose project on WW1 with Grantham Museum we showed interest in at this week's meeting, is coming to talk to us at the next meeting, 2nd December, at 11.00 am about how this will work and what she proposes. This could be quite an interesting project to be involved in, and give us some publicity and it will be interesting to see what she has in mind.

Secret Santa.

The secret Santa is optional but could those people who  would like to take part can bring a sewing 

related gift worth £5.

There will also be the usual raffle for a £10 Stitchcraft voucher

Pauline Verrinder Workshop

Grantham Embroiderers’ Guild

Workshop: Thursday 13th November, 2014

Times: 10am – 4pm

Tutor: Pauline Verrinder 

                                                      ‘THE FLIPPANT STITCH’

The workshop will be spent, looking at hand stitchery, in a light hearted and irreverent way.

Using fabric, conventional and unlikely threads, and surface fabric decoration or application,

we will be attempting to s-t-r-e-t-c-h our perceived knowledge hand embroidery.

This is a workshop suitable for both the beginner and the experienced - just come with an

open mind and a willingness to experiment and extend the boundaries with like minded

people. 

                                                      REQUIREMENTS LIST:

(Choose materials to your preferred colour scheme)

· Notebook & Pen

· An 8”/10” Wooden Embroidery Hoop

· One metre of lightweight cotton fabric (PLAIN coloured or hand dyed to your colour

scheme).

· Basic Sewing Kit to include embroidery scissors (ensure that you have a Crewel and

Tapestry needle).

· A pair of dressmaking scissors or similar.

· A variety of types of embroidery threads to your colour scheme anything goes – we can

also swap with each other. Don’t go out and buy any threads because I will bring a

selection with me.

****A charge of £2.00 will be made to cover the cost of additional fabric and some fabric

        decoration media.

LEARN A STITCH 

Look out for the new ongoing Learn a Stitch project where members will be able to design a  book cover using a new stitch they have learnt each month. More information to follow.

NOVEMBER MEETING 

Tins Slipper led a session on flower making  and below are some of the wonderful results and work in progress

                        EGG CHALLENGE 

The ongoing  egg challenge is under way and several eggs appeared at the November meeting.There will be more sessions relating to this project but you can always continue to work on your egg at any of the up coming meeting.

Remember the eggs can be flat or dimensional,traditional or quirky in design.They will be show cased at out exhibition in September 2015 and we look forward to seeing the finished products

We have some polystyrene eggs to decorate, some members are using duck eggs, or you can use blown hen's eggs; these can all be decorated with paint, découpage, fabric, braid, etc., and you can make papier-maché eggs.  Alternatively, you can stitch a 2D egg on fabric - templates or some aida canvas will be available,
